A café located in the F-7 area of the federal capital hosted engaging conversations on the history including the blood-letting that marked the partition of the subcontinent, the early years of the national cricket team, and the challenges facing the environment going forward among others as part of an activity-packed event on Sunday.
The discussions were part of ‘There’s Something On Sunday’ series which seeks to connect readers locally and globally, and engage in community building.
The event started with a talk on the history of Pakistan’s independence. One of the speakers, Saif Tahir pointed out that the violence around partition began long before August 1947. He said one had to read history to understand the situation unfolding in Pakistan today while alluding to the recent events in Punjab.
A conversation on climate by Wajeeha Riaz focused on the work of Indian writer Amitav Ghosh. She underscored the need to make literature on climate change accessible to the common people and in a language that would help them understand the consequences of disregarding it.
Safa Baig hosted a session on the role of cricket in shaping our national identity. Another session by Folkloristan’s Komal Salman focused on the importance of recording folk tales.
