JI lambasts PPP govt over 68 ‘manhole deaths’

'PPP did not devolve the powers to elected representatives despite the fact that a local government had been elected'

KARACHI:

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Engineer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has strongly lambasted the Pakistan People Party's (PPP) government in Sindh over the death of 68 innocent people, including women and children, in Karachi due to open manholes during the current year

Speaking at a press conference Naeem said that the installed mayor enjoyed the perks of being the administrator of Karachi as well as special assistant to the chief minister and spokesperson for the previous government in Sindh.

The installed mayor cannot shift the burden of responsibility to anyone else, he will have to respond to the question of responsibility of the prevailing mayhem in the backdrop of the fact that the party ruled the province for 15 long years.

He further said that the mayor used the pretext of hosting ceremony for distribution of lids for open gutters to gain the fame.

He also questioned the budget worth billions of rupees allocated for the purpose over the course of previous years. Naeem said that the PPP government did not devolve the powers to elected representatives despite the fact that a local government had been elected.
