Five climbers rescued from icy mountains

Four British climbers rescued from Concordia range, while Polish climber and his local guide rescued from Shigar

ISLAMABAD:

The army mounted a daring rescue operation on Thursday to save five mountaineers stranded in the icy rocks in Concodia and Shigar areas, said a statement on Friday.

The army recued four British climbers, a polish and a local guide. The climbers were found in critical condition with severe breathing problems. The army teams also provided them immediate medical assistant before their lifting to safety.

The four British climbers were rescued from the snow-capped Concordia range, while a Polish climber and his local guide were rescued from Shigar at about 17,000 feet high, the statement added.

The British climbers were George Hirst, David Cope, Stephen Ryan and Darren Corby, while the Polish mountaineer was identified as Adam, accompanied by guide Muhammad Iqbal.
