RAWALPINDI:

Rawalpindi police have initiated efforts to employ transgender individuals in police stations, following the pattern of other districts in Punjab.

A total of 58 transgender individuals are set to be hired in Rawalpindi, where they will assume roles as Senior Station Assistants and Police Station Assistants within the police stations.

These appointments will fall under the civilian staff category of the police department. According to police sources, the designation of Senior Station Assistant in the Rawalpindi district will correspond to BPS 9, while the position of Police Station Assistant will be classified under the BPS 7.

They said in the initial phase, the recruitment of transgender individuals will be on a temporary basis, with the intention of conferring permanent status after approximately three years.

Within Rawalpindi, seven positions for Senior Station Assistant will be filled through open merit, and recruitment will take place for 51 vacant slots for Police Station Assistant roles.

The age criteria for police recruitments range from 18 to 25 years, and applicants must hold Punjab domicile. Transgender individuals from Murree and Talagang can submit their applications at the police headquarters in Rawalpindi and Chakwal.

It has been specified that transgender candidates should have a minimum Intermediate qualification in Computer Sciences.

Sources reveal that this substantial recruitment of transgender individuals into the police force is anticipated to address numerous significant issues. During the initial stages, the newly hired transgender employees will receive training regarding police station protocols and front desk responsibilities.

Following a probationary period of three months, they will assume independent roles.

Sources said this decision by the Punjab government is expected to provide valuable employment opportunities for educated transgender individuals.

Those interested in applying for these positions can obtain the required forms from the official websites of Punjab Police.
