Arijit Singh 'beats' Taylor Swift to become Spotify’s third most followed artist

According to a report in India Today, Indian playback singer and music composer Arijit Singh has risen among the ranks of Spotify’s most followed artists, surpassing the likes of Grammy-award-winning musicians Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Eminem.

The Phir Aur Kya Chahiye singer is currently the third most-followed artist on Spotify, stationed directly behind Ed Sheeran and Ariana Grande, both of whom are positioned at number two and one respectively.

Arijit's steep climb to the top comes shortly after his song Chaleya for Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan’s film upcoming Jawan was released on YouTube. The award-winning and critically acclaimed artist has also beat Spotify favourites like Adele, Rihanna, and Drake to secure one of the top positions in its most-followed artist's list.

Despite being part of the mainstream entertainment industry for only a little over a decade, the Channa Mereya crooner has gained massive fame both in India and garnered a huge following around the world for his rhythmic tunes, heart-touching lyrics, and melodious vocals. Some of his most famous tracks include Kesariya, Tum Hi Ho, Kabira, Manwa Lage, Zaalima, Illahi, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and Agar Tum Saath Ho.

Just last week, Spotify India shared a screenshot of the most-played songs in India and the list featured not one, but two Arijit songs from the soundtrack of Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh’s new film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The songs were Tum Kya Mile and What Jhumka, with the latter already having gone viral on the internet and become a fan-favourite for its extremely catchy tune.

The seven-time winner of a Filmfare award is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the international music space. This fact is reinforced by his easy outrun of the Grammy-winning songstress who is currently selling out stadiums with her ongoing international Eras Tour.
