The federal government has decided to confer Hilal-e-Imtiaz on the officers who played a role in the successful settlement of the $5 billion Reko Diq dispute between the government of Pakistan and the Tethyan Copper Company.
According to sources, these officers include Federal Secretary for Law and Justice Raja Naeem Akbar, former International Dispute Unit head Ahmed Irfan Aslam and Brigadier Atif Rafique.
These officers represented the Pakistani government at various legal forums during the Reko Diq dispute and negotiated with the company, which resulted in an out-of-court settlement and financial compensation to the national exchequer.
The president of Pakistan will confer the award on the occasion of Pakistan Day on March 23, 2024.
