Jirga firmly rejects the prospect of further anarchy in the region

The Swat Qaumi Jirga, convened in Mingora, has once again raised a poignant alarm about the unsettling presence of armed groups in the mountainous regions of both Upper and Lower Swat districts.

Their apprehensions are rooted in a determination to avert any potential resurgence of chaos and instability, echoing the sentiments of a region that has endured its fair share of turmoil.

During the core committee meeting, resonating concerns emerged that any lapses on the government’s part could precipitate consequences that extend beyond Swat’s boundaries.

A striking point of contention arose regarding the establishment of check posts within urban centers and along highways.

The core committee meeting was presided over by Sher Bahadar Khan and attended by Haji Zahid Khan, Ahmad Shah Khan, Sher Bahadar Khan, Khoja Khan and Khurshid Kaka Jee.

The committee elected Sher Bahdar Khan as its conveyer for six months.

The Jirga outlined plans to establish its presence in all tehsils of Upper and Lower Swat districts.

The initial phase targets tehsils including Khwaza Khela, Matta, Babuzai, and Kabal, with subsequent phases expanding to encompass Barikot, Charbagh, and Bahrain.

Heightened concerns were expressed over the reemergence of TTP terrorists, who have reportedly regrouped in mountainous enclaves near urban centers.

The Jirga’s vigilance and its resolve to draw attention to this disturbing development underscore their commitment to safeguarding the region’s security and stability.

A notable proposal emerged from the Jirga’s discourse, advocating for the construction of Swat Motorway Phase II along the banks of River Swat.

To this end, a sub-committee was formed, comprising individuals deeply invested in the region’s welfare.
