KARACHI:

With the Independence Day on the horizon, the streets of Karachi, particularly Jhanda Street, have transformed into a lively hub of festively adorned stalls.

Despite a back-breaking 30 to 35 per cent surge in inflation, citizens have shown unwavering enthusiasm as they engage in purchasing flags, clothings, and a variety of other items to enjoy the upcoming celebration with zeal. The vibrant hues of Independence Day were evident throughout the city, with the spirit of the nation's freedom resonating through the waving green flags.

The activity, a tribute to the passion and sacrifices of those who were behind the creation of Pakistan, presents a radiant atmosphere in the city. The green and white stalls in Saddar's Jhanda Street drew a continuous stream of visitors.

Shopkeepers noted that while purchasing power might have been impacted, the fervour for celebrating August 14th with families remained unwavering. He said that the excitement at the stalls persisted until 1am every night. Green bangles, alongside the ubiquitous green flags, are also available for purchase at the stalls for the Independence Day celebrations.

Sana, a resident of Bolton Market, said that this venue offers all Independence Day's props at more affordable prices compared to other places.

Year after year, people demonstrate their love for the country by purchasing items to celebrate the day.

Rehman, a fifth-grade student, told The Express Tribune that he eagerly awaits this time of the year to buy flags, glasses, stickers, caps, bands, and clothing adorned with the national flag colours. He said that he likens the atmosphere of Independence Day to that of Eid, with homes adorned in green and white lights and flags.

Notably, significant buildings and markets were illuminated as well. Parents actively participate and encourage children to show love and patriotism for the country.
