The Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has started targeted subsidy on the special orders of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Five basic commodities – flour, ghee, sugar, pulses and rice – are being provided at the cheapest rates, a statement said.
Households registered under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) with a poverty index score of PMT_40 or less, will be eligible for the subsidy.
The BISP-registered users must show their original identity card at the counter to avail subsidy.
A flour bag of 10 kilos will be available at Rs648, ghee at Rs353 per kg and sugar at Rs100 per kg while a subsidy of Rs25 per kilo will be given on pulses and rice.
The statement urged all those who are not registered with the BISP to approach the nearest BISP office for registration.
Only targeted subsidies will now be available at utility stores, it stated, adding that common consumers, however, could make all kinds of purchases from all utility stores across the country without any conditions.
The statement added that sugar, ghee, flour, pulses and rice were being provided to common consumers at normal/general rates, which were much lower than the general market.
A wide range of essential items were being provided in abundance at all utility stores across the country. Along with this, it added, the own brand of pure spices at the utility stores were available at low rates with excellent quality.
