The City Traffic Police (CTP) have issued challan tickets to over 46,000 motorcyclists and imposed fines of more than Rs9.2 million besides seizing around 7,000 bikes into custody in a month during an ongoing crackdown against violators of the helmet ban.
Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani has also come forward to improve the traffic system in the garrison city. In this regard, he visited different areas of the city, reviewed the traffic situation and issued necessary instructions to the traffic wardens.
According to details, the use of helmets has been declared mandatory for motorcyclists across Punjab to ensure safe travel. There is also a ban on petrol pumps not fueling up the motorcycles whose riders are without a helmet, which is being strictly enforced.
In Rawalpindi, under the leadership of Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Taimur Khan, the CTP is continuing to crack down on traffic violations, especially against those who do not use helmets during the ride.
According to a spokesperson for the CTP, during the crackdown since last month, more than 46,000 bike riders riding motorcycles without wearing a helmet were issued challan tickets worth more than Rs9.2 million. More than 7,000 such motorcycles were also seized, the spokesperson said.
CTO Taimur Khan said: “Zero tolerance policy is being adopted on enforcement of helmet ban.”
