Mark Zuckerberg recently announced that his new platform Threads, will now support sharing posts to Instagram DMs, custom alt text for photos and videos and a new mention button.
The Send option on Instagram will let users publish their Threads posts directly to Instagram DMs. The feature seems to be a part of “retention-driving hooks” as Meta tries to ensure users on Instagarm are equally connected with Threads, Reuters' Chief Product Officer Chris Cox says.
After rapidly falling engagement at the new Twitter-competing platform, the company has been vigourously releasing new updates and adding new features to retain users. Over a 100 million dropped out from the platform in less than a week., which Meta CEO, described as 'normal' and expected.

The custom alt-text option is an accessibility feature which will let Threads users to add (or edit existing auto-generated) alt text for photos and videos before uploading. Moreover, the metion button will make it easier to tag people in Threads' posts. The company has also made it simpler for users to verify their identity on fediverse platforms like Mastodon.
Earlier this month, Meta announced that it was working on a web-version of Threads with a proper search function.
