Court issues notices on Bari Imam complex plea

Seeks reply from parties on committee for the development, management of the complex under Dar's leadership

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices seeking responses from nominated parties in a petition opposing the formation of a committee for the development and management of the Hazrat Bari Imam Darbar Complex under the leadership of outgoing finance minister Ishaq Dar.

IHC Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb heard the petition of Pir Syed Muhammad Ali Geelani, who is the custodian of the Bari Imam shrine in the capital.

The court sent notice to the other parties, including the Ministry of Interior, after hearing the preliminary arguments, asking for a response within two weeks.

Eight private members are part of the committee headed by Ishaq Dar, as per a notification issued on July 29.

The committee had been reconstituted following a notification from the ministry.

The private members include General (retd) Muhammad Afzal Janjua, Hanif Abbasi, Raja Sarfraz Akram, Sohail Iqbal Bhatti, Gohar Zahid Malik, Inam Rabbani, Mohsin Raza Naqvi and Mian Muhammad Hanif along with the Islamabad chief commissioner and deputy commissioner as well as the chairman of the Capital Development Authority, as per the notification.
