In an effort to address the critical issue of water conservation and sustainable groundwater management in Balochistan, the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) Pakistan organized a three-day training workshop.
The training, held under the auspices of the World Bank-funded Balochistan Integrated Water Resources Management and Development Project (BIWRMDP), focused on promoting the responsible utilization of groundwater resources.
The seminar gathered approximately 20 agriculture and water professionals from various departments, including On-Farm Water Management and the provincial government, to gain insights into efficient groundwater usage and monitoring techniques.
During the event, Dr. Mohsin Hafeez, Director of Water-Food & Ecosystems at IWMI/Country Representative for IWMI Pakistan, emphasized the significant role of groundwater in sustaining agriculture but also highlighted the pressing challenges facing this precious resource.
He underscored that current groundwater usage in Balochistan lacked systematic monitoring, leading to increased stress on water availability.
