Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial has convened a crucial meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan on Aug 2 to deliberate on the appointment of a permanent chief justice of the Peshawar High Court (PHC).

In focus for the position is Justice Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, who currently serves as the acting PHC chief justice.

The appointment of Justice Ibrahim at the chief justice position of the high court will be a key agenda item during the upcoming commission’s meeting.

The decision holds significant importance in judiciary, and it is expected to shape the court's course in the coming years.

In another development, the Supreme Court (SC) recently released its cause list for the upcoming week, featuring an important case concerning the trial of civilians in military courts. Scheduled for Aug 1 at 11:30am, the hearing will take place before a six-member larger bench, led by the chief justice.

The composition of the bench comprises Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Mazahir Naqvi, and Justice Ayesha Malik, all of whom will contribute their expertise and insights to the proceedings.

Previously, the SC had granted the attorney general a designated period to seek instructions on the right of appeal against decisions made by the military court.
