50 Chiniot villages inundated

Government to build protective embankment

Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the flood-hit area of Chiniot and announced building a protective embankment to safeguard Mouza Sambal where 50 villages have been in undated due to river erosion.

The CM conducted a detailed visit of Mouza Sambal, which has been impacted by river erosion, and reviewed the damages. Naqvi met with the affected people, listened to their problems, and assessed the ongoing relief activities. He also inspected the village, where around 50 villages in Mouza Sambal were permanently inundated and all the houses of one village had collapsed.

The CM announced plans to build a protective embankment to safeguard Mouza Sambal from river erosion.

He emphasiaed that funds for the embankment's construction were being released immediately. Mohsin Naqvi urged the people to adopt safety measures and cooperate with the administration in this regard. He directed the administration to take all possible preventive measures and assured that the Punjab government would not abandon the flood victims.

He pledged to rehabilitate the residents of the affected village and ordered the provision of edibles and fodder to those in need.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the Irrigation Department, PDMA, and Rescue 1122 should remain vigilant. He mentioned that floodwater was continuously increasing in Mouza Sambal, but prompt actions had been taken to shift affected residents to safe places, evacuating 90% of the population from the inundated village.

During his visit to Bhawana Tehsil in Chiniot district to assess the situation caused by rain, he promptly instructed the administration to take immediate measures and utilize necessary resources and machinery to drain out the accumulated water.

The CM also inquired about the well-being of patients and the availability of medicines at the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospital. The patients and their attendants expressed satisfaction with the provision of free medicines. Additionally, he inspected the hospital's medicine store to ensure an adequate supply of medicines and urged the CEO Health to expedite the completion of the THQ hospital's new building.
