‘Thief’ allegedly lynched by mob

Five suspects, including a shopkeeper, tortured and hanged victim

An alleged thief who attempted to rob a grocery store in Ghulam Mohammadabad area was killed by five people, including the shopkeeper, on Wednesday. According to reports, the suspected thief was killed when the mob tied a rope around his neck.

Police, while taking possession of the body, registered a case against six accused including the shopkeeper. Thus far, three accused have been arrested

According to the details, Sharafat Ali allegedly tried to rob Bilal’s shop in the Dogar Chowk, upon which the shopkeeper Bilal, along with Mohsin, Mujahid, Talha and others, allegedly caught him and tortured him. They reportedly took him to the upper room of the shop and put a rope around Sharafat’ neck, hanging him from the girder and torturing him. Sharafat’s health deteriorated and he was shifted to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

As soon as reports of the incident were received, SHO Ghulam Mohammad Abad reached the spot with a contingent of officers and seized the body of the deceased, turning it over to his heirs after the post-mortem. On the statement of Ijaz Nawaz, the brother of the victim, a case was registered against the accused under provisions of murder and three of the accused were detained and questioned.
