Pindi to get modern Circuit House

Rs1.84b project to be completed by December 2024

RAWALPINDI:

Funds have been allocated for what is said to be the first modern Circuit House in the Rawalpindi district, which would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs1.84 billion.

The funds were allocated under the provincial government’s annual development programme (ADP), with approval also coming through for the upgradation and renovation of the Murree camp office of the Rawalpindi commissioner, and the construction and renovation of the residence of the district revenue officer.

According to the department, it will be Rawalpindi's first state-of-the-art circuit house. It will be under the control of Rawalpindi deputy commissioner.

In colonial-era administration, the circuit referred to an administrative unit. Such houses were there at every circuit as a place for officers to stay while they were visiting their circuit. It also served as a guest house for other officials. It also served as the seat of administration, with relevant offices on the premises or nearby.

This circuit house in Rawalpindi is scheduled to be completed in 18 months. It will be spread over an area of five kanals on government-owned land, which ‘has already been selected’.

Earlier, it was reported that the proposed structure was to be at least a five-storey building spread over 24 kanals’.

Along with the tenders, the contract for the construction of the circuit house will be awarded next month.

Official residences

The ADP funds included Rs49 million for the construction and renovation of the deputy commissioner's camp office in Murree. It will include a change of interior and upgradation of amenities.
