Five terror suspects arrested

Afghan identity cards, explosives, detonators and weapons seized

Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested five alleged terrorists, who are stated to be members of a proscribed organisation, from different parts of the province.

A spokesman for the CTD said the suspected terrorists, identified as Hanif, Syed, Tariq Khalid and Abdul Sattar were arrested in Gujranwala and Multan, and investigation was underway after registration of cases against the accused.

The CTD claimed to have recovered Afghan identity cards, explosive materials, detonators, mobile-phones and weapons from the arrested people.

Attempted suicide

A man allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from the bridge of the Orange Line Metro train near Chauburji on Saturday.

The victim reportedly climbed the bridge and hung over the edge of the bridge, preparing to jump.

Passerby tried to stop him, but he ignored their pleas and jumped.

The victim sustained injuries to his legs and arms and was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

His condition was reported to be stable. Police are investigating the matter further.

Road accidents

At least 10 people were killed and 1,285 were injured in 1,189 Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) across all 37 districts of Punjab during the past 24 hours.

Of the injured, 685 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 600 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by Rescue Medical Teams. The majority of RTCs, 71 percent, involved motorbikes.

Further analysis showed that 600 drivers, 39 underage drivers, 600 pedestrians and 564 passengers were among the victims of RTCs. The statistics show that 229 RTCs were reported in Lahore with 242 victims, placing the Provincial Capital at top of the list. Multan followed behind with 97 RTCs and 107 victims and Faisalabad at third with 88 RTCs and 87 victims.

Details reveal that 1,285 victims were affected by RTCs, including 1,015 males & 280 females, while the age group of the victims shows that 257 were under 18 years of age, 665 were between 18 and 40 years old and the remaining 373 victims were reportedly above 40 years of age.
