LAHORE:

Manufacturing of glucometer and diagnostic kits for 34 laboratory tests has been started in Pakistan, which will help save foreign exchange worth millions of dollars annually.

In addition to approval by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), the European Union and the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) have also issued relevant certificates to the medical kits manufactured in the country.

Use of the test kits made in Pakistan would help encourage the local industry and create thousands of employment opportunities for economic self-sufficiency of the country, Caretaker Punjab Minister of Primary and Secondary Healthcare Dr Jamal Nasir said while addressing the launching ceremony of the kits on Saturday.

The caretaker minister was informed that $300 million was being annually spent for importing diagnostic kits, including $50 million for sugar test sticks.
