Caretaker govt: MQM-P, PTI jump into action

MQM-Pakistan senior leader Farooq Sattar, members of Sindh Assembly and other leaders met Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani at Sindh Assembly on Friday to request change of opposition leader in the House.

In this regard, Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani said that Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) has also contacted for the slot of the opposition leader.

Durrani said that he has sought a legal opinion from the Secretary Assembly and the change of the opposition leader will be done according to the rules.

Later speaking to the media, Farooq Sattar said that the assembly is going to fulfill its tenure on August 14 and the caretaker setup will be installed in consultation of the leader of the house and the leader of the opposition.

Therefore, presence of the opposition leader is necessary whereas the incumbent Leader of the Opposition in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh was missing since May 9 riots. Haleem is only writing letters, he has to be present physically to decide on the caretaker setup, Sattar said. Haleem Adil Sheikh, meanwhile, wrote a letter to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on the issue of caretaker government. The term of the current Sindh Assembly will end on August 14.
