Writers and intellectuals praised modern Sufism as a theory of social reform, highlighting the influence of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai in introducing Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi to Sindh.
They were speaking at the launch of the book Rumi Ji Otaq or Rumi’s Lounge authored by Syed Ghulam Hyder Shah Qalandri, which was launched in collaboration with Bazm-e-Rooh Rehan and Anjuman Ghulaman-e-Qalandar Sindh.
The launch ceremony was held at the Dr Nabi Bux Baloch Auditorium of the Sindhi Language Authority.
Sindhi Adabi Sangat Secretary General Taj Joyo emphasised that saints and mystics have guided people and stood up against oppressive rulers, advocating for the betterment of humanity.
He highlighted that Maulana Rumi's connection with society demonstrated his focus on welfare and societal improvement.

Regarding the meeting place of village folk - the Otaq - of Sindh, Joyo emphasised that these are institutes of wisdom and knowledge that have consistently taught the importance of love to overcome greed and fear.
Joyo appreciated Qalandri's adept use of Bhittai's poems in his articles. The author emphasised that Bhittai introduced teachings of Rumi to Sindh, and modern Sufism offers solutions to people's problems and suffering, rejecting traditional Peeri-Muridi, religious bigotry, and cruelty.
Writer Mahmood Mughal acknowledged the role of modern Sufism in opposing bigotry and religious fanaticism in Sindh. He highlighted the significance of individuals throughout history who sacrifice to lead people onto the right path. Syed Zawar Naqvi, a renowned writer, praised "Rumi Ji Otaq," considering it a heartfelt exploration of the true purpose of Sufism.
Writer Idrees Jatoi noted that the concept of human rights preached by Prophet Muhammad Mustafa in his last sermon predated the United Nations human rights resolution in 1947, underscoring the equality of all human beings. Mansoor Qadir Junejo, another respected writer, lauded Sindh for spreading love worldwide and maintaining the flame of Sufism.
Writer Altaf Malkani mentioned that Sufis in Sindh's spiritual centres have upheld their ideals while embracing modern Sufism that benefits the people.
