PM orders foolproof arrangements as Punjab rivers witness low-level flood

Rescue 1122 and Rangers rescue people from flood water

As India releases water, Punjab faces a low-level flood at Chashma Barrage on Monday. However, there is a possibility of a reduction in the downstream of the Indus River in the coming days.

At present, the total flow of water in the rivers is 425,000 cusecs and the storage is 82 lakh acre feet.

The release of water from India increased the flow in the Chenab River at the Marala headworks to 169,000 cusecs, at Khanki headworks 193,000, at Kadirabad 194,000 and at Tareemo 33,000 cusecs.

Moreover, the flow of water at Tarbela in the Indus River is 153,000 while the flow of water at Nowshera in the Kabul River is 56,000 cusecs.

At Kalabagh, the flow of water in the Indus River is 210,000 cusecs and the water flow of 226,000 cusecs at the Taunsa Barrage has been recorded.

Moreover, the inflow of water at Guddu Barrage is 188,700 cusecs, the flow of water at Sukkur Barrage is 144,000 cusecs while 29,000 cusecs of water is being carried to the sea.

People rescued from floodwater

Meanwhile, a joint rescue operation of Punjab Rangers and Rescue 1122 in the Tehsil Shakargarh rescued 223 people trapped in flood water.

During cultivation, most of the people including children and women were trapped in the flood water coming from India.

PM orders foolproof arrangements

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the relevant authorities to make foolproof arrangements to handle the possible flood situation in Ravi, Chenab and Sutlej rivers.

He also directed them to get prepared for timely and safe evacuation and create awareness among the people in the potentially affected areas.

The prime minister appreciated the Rangers and Rescue 1122 personnel for the timely evacuation and assistance of the people trapped in flood water in Shakargarh.

He said the timely relief actions helped save dozens of people including women and children. “I along with the whole nation pay tributes to the country’s dutiful personnel,” he remarked.
