Amruta Subhash, the talented actor who recently appeared in Konkona Sen Sharma's The Mirror in Lust Stories 2, opened up about her experiences shooting intimate scenes and whether there is a difference in how male and female directors handle such scenes. Amruta fondly recalled shooting her first intimate scene with director Anurag Kashyap and praised his sensitivity throughout the process.
During the filming of Sacred Games 2, Anurag demonstrated his thoughtfulness by discussing Amruta's menstruation dates with his direction team to ensure that the shooting of the intimate scenes would be scheduled at a time when she was comfortable.
In a conversation with Netflix India, Amruta shared, "It did not matter whether he was a man or a woman. The way he was extremely sensitive. He was the one to ask me, 'When are your periods? Let's not schedule the scene for those dates. You'll do that during periods?' He asked that! How sensitive."
The star revealed that the director called the direction team to ensure her scenes were not scheduled when she was uncomfortable. Moreover, Amruta emphasised that sensitivity should not be defined by gender and added, "This is beyond being a male or a female. He was so sensitive." The actor portrayed a RAW agent in the series, who transforms Nawazuddin Siddiqui's Ganesh Gaitonde into a spy for the intelligence agency.
In The Mirror, directed by celebrated actor Konkona, Amruta shared the screen with Tillotama Shome. Reflecting on her character, Amruta revealed that she did not fully understand the role during the narration process. She explained to The Indian Express, "Sometimes it is best not to understand your characters fully. Only then can you expand as a person. Even if you are saying the line - 'mujhe mazaa aa rahaa hai' (I am enjoying it) - while essaying a character, it frees the actor too. That's the kind of feeling I had."
Amruta's experiences highlight the importance of sensitivity and open communication on set, irrespective of the gender of the director. Her collaboration with directors like Anurag and Konkona showcases their dedication to creating a comfortable and respectful working environment for actors. Additionally, Amruta's performances in The Mirror and Sacred Games 2 exemplify her talent and versatility as an actor, capturing the attention of audiences and critics alike.
