Former cricketer Shahid Afridi may be tough on the field but has a soft spot – especially when it comes to matters related to his daughters. Now, on the occasion of his eldest daughter’s marriage, the stellar batsman shared pictures from the ceremonies and wrote a heartfelt note for her as she begins another journey.
On Saturday, Shahid took to Instagram with a series of pictures embracing his eldest daughter Aqsa Afridi on her marriage. “Meri pyari beti (my dear daughter), it seems like yesterday when I cradled you in my arms - and on that day, I promised myself I would never leave your side. Although you’re about to begin a new chapter in your life, you’ll always have my heart because I’m the man who loved you first,” he wrote.
He continued with prayers for her daughter and son-in-law’s union. “May Allah keep you both under His Divine protection and give you the chance to create a beautiful life together,” he concluded.
The pictures saw Shahid looking dapper in a black shalwar kurta with a waistcoat of the same colour. While Aqsa’s face was hidden in all pictures, she wore a stunning heavily embroidered red and gold dress and paired it with heavy jewellery.
As per local news media outlets, the Rukhsati event of Aqsa’s wedding was held in Karachi and was attended by family, friends, and members of the Pakistan national team. The firstborn of the former skipper tied the knot with Naseer Nasir in a private ceremony held in Karachi in December last year. Rukhsati mostly takes place with Nikah, but Shahid’s family postponed the consummation of marriage for July.
Skipper Babar Azam, wicketkeeper Rizwan, former skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed, Imam ul Haq, Shan Masood, Hassan Ali, Aamir Jamal and Shaheen Shah Afridi were also present at the event.
