Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday directed the authorities concerned for early formulation of a comprehensive policy to curb the smuggling of tyres and spare parts.
The PM, in a meeting with a delegation of Service Long March Tyres and Chaoyang Long March Tyres led by their Chairman Li Qingwen, instructed the relevant authorities to take effective measures to tackle the illegal trade.
He remarked that China had always supported Pakistan like a brother in every hour of need and assured the delegation that the government would extend all possible support to the Chinese investors eager to pour capital into Pakistan.
The premier appreciated the Chinese company’s investment through a joint venture with a renowned tyre manufacturing firm in Pakistan.
He was apprised that the tyres being manufactured by the plant established with Chinese investment were also being exported to the international market.
Within a short span of one year, the company’s tyres had established their place in the world market, the meeting was told. Moreover, the company has planned to enhance tyre manufacturing to boost exports to $200 million annually.
The PM instructed the authorities to extend all-out support to the Chinese investors for the uplift of tyre industry in Pakistan.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister Tariq Pasha and other relevant officials attended the meeting.
