Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab foiled a major terror plot by arresting seven terror suspects linked to a banned outfit during operations in different areas of the province.
A CTD spokesman said the department conducted 38 intelligence-based operations in different districts of the province to effectively deal with any untoward incident of terrorism, in which 38 suspects were interrogated and 7 suspects were arrested with weapons, explosives and other prohibited materials.
The arrested suspects were identified as Abrarul Haq, Abdul Rehman, Muhammad Umair, Muhammad Imran Saqib, Ashfaq Ahmad, Muhammad Ayub and Muhammad Muawiya. They belong to the banned organisations Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Al-Qaeda and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
The arrest was made during intelligence-based operations in Rawalpindi, Sahiwal, Bahalpur and Gujranwala, the spokesman said, adding that 1.543kgs of explosives, eight detonators, 13.03 feet of safety fuse, 1 banned book, two magazines, 29 pamphlets and 64 stickers from a banned outfit, a mobile phone and Rs24,010 in cash were recovered from the possession of the suspects.
