HARIPUR:

A young man from Haripur’s Kahakka village was murdered, allegedly by his cousins over a land dispute.

The murder of Waseem Afzal Awan took place in the jurisdiction of Kahakka police. The superintendent of police (SP) for investigations, the deputy superintendent of the Sadar circle Umar Hayat and Sadar police station SHO Amir Khan visited the crime scene. They also met the relatives of the victim to gather information.

The victim was the brother of Naeem Afzal Awan who is the district president of an organisation for handicapped people. His uncle is the principal of a government school.

The police shifted the dead body to the hospital and registered a case against the accused who managed to escape the scene.

SP investigation Asif Gohar Khan instructed the Saddar and other investigation officers to ensure the immediate arrest of the killers. The police also assured the relatives of the deceased that police parties had been formed for the arrest of criminals.

In a separate incident, the lifeless body of a young child was found in a nullah near Makhan Colony. The deceased, believed to be between the ages of four and five, remains unidentified, and efforts are underway to locate the child's family.

The distressing discovery took place at Sarai Saleh, near the Makhan Colony Bridge. Following the recovery of the body, the medical team from Rescue 1122 Haripur promptly took custody of the child and transferred it to the Trauma Center in Haripur.

Authorities have initiated investigations into the incident, but so far, neither the child's identity nor the whereabouts of the family has been determined.

Ban imposed

The district administration on Tuesday imposed a two-month ban on activities such as setting fire to forests and other actions that pose a threat to the local flora and fauna at various recreational sites.

This decision aims to preserve the natural beauty of the region and ensure the safety of its valuable wildlife.

The ban has been enforced under Section 144 CrPC granting the administration the authority to regulate and prevent such activities.
