Graveyards in Hyderabad are in dire need of cleanliness people of New Wahdat Colony said drawing attention of the local government representatives towards the issue. There are piles of garbage, overgrown buses and grass in every cemetery of the city, said of New Wahdat Colony Action Committee Chairman Shahid Soomro and other citizens who came to the graves of their loved ones to recite Fatiha on Eid days at Babban Shah Bukhari Cemetery. Soomoro requested Mayor Kashif Shoro to visit the graveyards and see the situation first hand.
He requested the mayor to direct the officials concerned to carry out cleanliness at graveyards, cut bushes and trim the trees. Soomro said that despite repeated complaints the officers of Taluka Latifabad did not bother to clean the graveyards and make lightning arrangements. People pointed out that over grown bushes provide cover to criminal elements who use the graveyards as hideouts as well as rendezvous points. Moreover, in the day, herders bring their goats to graze in the cemetery, while dogs roam about freely among the graves.
Some people, out of devotion carve text from Holy Quran on tombstones, which should be discouraged because all sorts of animals, including dogs roam around the graves, they said. Soomro appealed to Mayor Shoro to release funds to improve the conditions of the cemetery. He said that they have been serving the cemetery for years, if the mayor of Hyderabad cooperates, they will renovate most of the deserted parks of Qasimabad, including the cemetery.
