Govt cracks down on obscenity in theatres

Theatre owners, producers, artistes face action

Stage drama is considered to be a great source of entertainment for the citizens, but some hall owners and artistes do not refrain from obscenity.

The Punjab government has decided to take action against theatre producers, owners and artistes who perform obscene acts.

Information and Culture Secretary Ali Nawaz Malik told a delegation of journalists that the amount of artiste support fund had been increased from Rs8 million to Rs10 million. He said a list of 2,400 artistes was being scrutinised so that only the deserving ones benefited from the fund.

TikToker Hareem Shah, who is always visible on the social media, addressed a news conference at the Lahore Press Club and said she would go to meet the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman. She said she had a friendship with former minister Sheikh Rasheed.

As always, release of films on the Eid was a topic of interest in the country.

A film, Teri Meri Kalyanian, under the supervision of three renowned directors of the Pakistani film industry is set to hit the theatres with a star cast.

The film features horror, comedy and romance, with Mehwish Hayat, Ramsha Khan, Shehryar Munawar and Nadeem Baig.

The artistes and directors said the film combines three short stories with different actors and directors. The film is a first-of-its-kind experience in Pakistani cinema.

Pakistani and Indian artistes of Punjabi film Carry On Jatta addressed a video conference. The hero and producer Gippy Grewal, Binnu Dhillon, Sonam Bajwa and Kavita said their main goal was to spread happiness and laughter.

Showbiz star Reema Khan posted pictures and videos on Instagram to keep her fans updated about her Hajj pilgrimage.

She wrote along with a picture that life is what you make it; everyone has their own path that they have to find and she feels lucky in Makkah.
