Officials from the Haripur Education Department held a token strike to protest the alleged disrespectful behaviour of the Haripur District Monitoring Officer (DMO) towards the said department’s officers.
According to sources, the protest took place outside the Education Department Office whereby protestors demanded the immediate transfer of the DMO from Haripur district.
The protestors said the token strike will continue until Eid if the transfer does not occur within the given time frame.
They said the protest may extend to other government institutions in the district and potentially escalate to the provincial level if the transfer does not happen.
Sources said several organisations have criticised the DMO's actions, calling for his immediate transfer.
All Coordination Employees Chairman Malik Hafeez expressed concerns over the DMO's ‘repeated derogatory remarks’ about the education department and its employees during a meeting with DEOs and SDEOs.
In response to the ‘humiliation’, male and female DEOs and SDEOs boycotted a recent meeting, sources said.
The organisations denounced the DMO's ‘disrespectful behaviour towards the teaching profession, education departments, and teachers.
“The role of the DMO is to assess performance and submit reports to the provincial government, they said adding that it is expected that the DMO apologises to DEOs and teachers' unions.
Failure to do so may result in drastic action,” he added.
