New Inter Part-I admission policy approved for Karachi

Admissions starts from June 27; students with B, C, D and E grade can only apply for admission in respective zones

The Sindh Department of College Education has approved the admission policy for Intermediate, Part-1, marking a significant change after 23 years. Admissions in government colleges of Karachi will now be granted on a zonal basis rather than solely on merit. This is in line with the system in place before the year 2000. The new admission policy introduces two different systems for first year admissions.

Under the earlier system, students with A-1 and A grades will be eligible to apply for admission to any college in the city. Meanwhile, the new policy allows students with B, C, D, and E grades to apply for admissions only within their respective zones.

While speaking to The Express Tribune, Rashid Khoso, Secretary Centralised Admission Policy, stated that a 25-minute drive zone will be established, resulting in the creation of 12 zones in Karachi. In response to a question, he clarified that students with B, C, D, and E grades will not be able to seek admission to prestigious colleges in the city, even if they fall within their respective zones. This measure aims to uphold the principles of merit.

Under the new policy, online admissions will commence from June 27, and the deadline for submitting online forms is July 20, with a possibility of extension until August 1.

According to the current notification from the College Education Department Secretary, admission lists for all faculties will be released by July 25, and classes are scheduled to commence from August 5. Students with A1 and A grades have the option to apply for admission in any college across the city, while students with B, C, and D grades are limited to applying within their respective zones. Domicile and PRC (Permanent Resident Certificate) will be mandatory requirements for admissions.

The notification further states that claim centres will be established in various colleges, and all admissions will be based on Class 9 results.
