Celebrated Indian filmmaker Nikkhil Advani recently took to social media to express his admiration for the Pakistani film, Joyland, and its talented cast. Nikkhil, known for his contributions to Hindi cinema, commended director Saim Sadiq's masterful control over the writing and craft, highlighting the bold choices made in every department.

Nikkhil also lauded the exceptional performances of Rasti Farooq, Alina Khan, and Ali Junejo. The heartfelt post was made on his Instagram Story following the closure of the season of Cinema House at the G5A Foundation.

Taking to his Instagram Stories, the filmmaker first shared a series of images from the screening. He then went on to pen, "We closed the season of Cinema House at G5A foundation with the incredible Joyland. Saim's control of the writing and the craft is masterful. What bold choices he has made in every department need to be first applauded and then studied."

He then went on to appreciate some of the remaining cast and crew. He wrote, "Rasti, Alina, and Ali - my god, what performances. We all just sat for a few minutes in stunned silence. Apoorva Charan - more power to you and I know whatever you choose to do in the future is going to be so so special. Thank you."

Joyland, written, directed, and co-edited by Saim, marks his feature directorial debut. The film revolves around a middle-class family living in inner-city Lahore. The story centres on an elder patriarch who eagerly anticipates the birth of a grandson. Complications arise when his youngest son, Haider, played by Ali, finds work at a dance theatre, leading to his infatuation with Biba, a transgender dancer portrayed by Alina. Joyland has previously made waves internationally as well, premiering at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 2022.

Nikkhil, a renowned director, producer, and screenwriter in Hindi cinema, has a prolific career spanning over two decades. His directorial debut, Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), a romantic comedy-drama, garnered widespread acclaim and commercial success. Nikkhil has since directed and co-written several films, including Salaam-e-Ishq (2007), Chandni Chowk to China (2009), and Batla House (2019). He has also ventured into film production, founding Emmay Entertainment, a prominent production company in Mumbai.

The G5A Foundation for Contemporary Culture, where the season of Cinema House took place, was established by architect and filmmaker Anuradha Parikh. G5A serves as a multi-functional community space and cultural centre located in Central Mumbai. As a not-for-profit organization, G5A promotes contemporary art and culture, encourages experimental and courageous creative endeavours, and advocates for inclusive and participatory governance.
