Sharjeel urges people to cooperate with govt amid cyclone threat

While some low-lying areas experienced water ingress, prompt govt action mitigated major damages, the minister said

KARACHI:

Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memom on Thursday urged people to avoid going to beaches in Karachi and follow government instructions regarding cyclone threat.

Speaking to the media, at the Sindh Assembly Media Corner on Thursday, Sharjeel emphasised that people living in affected areas have been relocated to relief camps as a precautionary measure in view of cyclone Biparjoy which made landfall on Thursday night in border region of Pakistan and India.

According to Memom, over 78,000 people have been successfully relocated from coastal areas such as Thatta, Badin, and Sujawal, with 93% of the population now in secured locations.

While some low-lying areas have experienced water ingress, prompt government actions have mitigated major damages, the minister told the media persons.

He specifically mentioned the relocation of people from Thatta district to relief camps. Memom appealed to citizens to avoid coastal areas of Karachi and cooperate with the government's directives. Addressing the political scenario, Memom stated that the people of Karachi have rejected the politics of hatred.
