Acclaimed artists donate to National Art Gallery’s permanent collection

Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) Wednesday hosted a new art exhibition titled “Perpetual Beings Vol 2” - a group show from National Art Gallery’s permanent collection along with newly acquired artworks from distinguished artists across Pakistan.

According to a statement, the National Heritage and Culture Divission (NH&CD) Secretary Farina Mazhar inaugurated the show along with PNCA Board Member Asma Rashid.

On the occasion, PNCA officials thanked senior sculptor and winner of Pride of Performance 2023 Anjum Ayaz for gifting two sculptures for the permanent collection.

Muhammad Javed, a very well-known painter from Lahore and recipient of Pride of Performance gifted a beautiful landscape painting while Fauzia Minallah, a sculptor, painter, and graphic designer gifted her painting titled “Darkhton Mein Chuppi Beitiyan” (Daughters hidden in trees).

Moreover, diplomat and women’s rights advocate, Naela Chohan donated one of her paintings to the permanent collection of the National Art Gallery.

The group exhibition brought forward a wide range of mediums and techniques with an amalgamation of contemporary and traditional artworks.

The artworks by 32 artists are on display in the show including Ijazul Hassan, Salima Hashmi, Anwar Maqsood, Mashkoor Raza, Anwar Jalal Shemza, S. Ali Imam, Rabia Zuberi, Zubeida Agha, and others.

The show was heavily visited by a large audience including artists, students, and government officials. A large number of students visited the show and interviewed the artists about their techniques and art practices.

Speaking on the occasion, PNCA officials said the body is committed to promoting significant aspects of the country and encourages community participation in gallery activities, fostering curatorial practice to artist's understanding of their work and encouraging a healthy and sustainable local arts industry.

They said PNCA has maintained a range of regionally focused visual arts exhibitions featuring both nationally and internationally recognised artists.
