Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) building resounded with political slogans as supporters of rival political parties came face to face on the oath taking ceremony of members elected on the reserved seats.
Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Memon administered the oath to women, young individuals, labourers/farmers, members of minorities, and transgender individuals who were elected to reserved seats of KMC and 21 Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs) at the KMC City Council Hall.
Out of the 121 members of the KMC, 118 took the oath, while three women were absent from the ceremony. There was significant disorder during the event, with indirectly elected members of political parties making noise and shouting slogans.
Supporters of the Peoples Party, Jamaat-eIslami, Pakistan Tehreek-eInsaf, and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) raised slogans in the City Council Hall. Following the swearing-in ceremony, those accompanying the local bodies representatives showered flower petals.
The KMC building reverberated with the sound of drums and supporters of political parties chanting slogans in support of their respective representatives and leaders.
