CPNE forms two committees for 2023-24

Committees to ensure freedom of press, print media’s economic independence

KARACHI:

The Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) has formed two new committees—the Committee for Free Media and the Editors-Government Liaison Committee—for the year 2023-2024.

The Committee for Free Media will be chaired by Kazim Khan and will comprise Amir Khan, Ayaz Khan, Sardar Khan Niazi, Irshad Ahmed Arif [president] and Ejazul Haq [general secretary].

The committee aims at dealing with the challenges to journalists’ rights and freedom of expression in the country in collaboration with other journalist organizations. The Editors-Government Liaison Committee will be chaired by Irshad Ahmed Arif while Ejazul Haq will be its deputy chairman.

The members are Amir Mehmood, Sardar Khan Niazi, Yousuf Nizami, Tahir Farooq, Arif Baloch, Ghulam Nabi Chandio, Syed Hamid Hussain Abidi, Dr Jabbar Khattak, Yahya Sadozai, Zia Tanoli, Shakeel Ahmed Turabi and Adnan Zafar.

This committee is mandated to raise voice for implementation of press laws, the right to information (RTI) law and freedom of press as well as ensure economic independence of the print media and relationship between the government and the press.
