KWSB putting chlorine in water as per WHO standards

KARACHI, PAKISTAN:

Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) is adding chlorine to the water as per the standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO), CEO of the board Engineer Salahuddin Ahmed said.

KWSB is combating the presence of Naegleria Floweri (brain eating amoeba) by adding the required amount of chlorine in the water it supplies, he said.

The process of adding chlorine to the water at the hydrants is diligently monitored, with a chlorine tablet added to every 1,000-gallon water tanker by the in-charge and the focal person of the hydrant cell.

Ahmed said that ongoing improvements are being made to the hydrants cell, considering public concerns and striving to provide better facilities to the citizens.

In response to fire emergencies across the city, KWSB Hydrants Cell offers free water tankers to assist in firefighting operations.

According to a spokesperson from the KWSB, a total of 1.95 million gallons of water were provided to the fire brigade authorities free of charge during the years 2022 and 2023.

KWSB Hydrant Cell In-charge, Elahi Bakhsh Bhutto, stated that in the past year, the fire brigade officials requested assistance from the KWSB in various areas of the city to swiftly control fire incidents.
