The serendipitous meeting took place during the pre-show of A Doll's House, a Broadway play in which Chastain portrays the iconic character of Nora.
The encounter not only highlighted the significance of the play's female-centric adaptation but also celebrated the tireless efforts of Malala in championing female rights and freedom. Expressing her excitement, Chastain took to Instagram to share her joyous encounter with her followers.
Chastain praised Malala's relentless advocacy for female rights and freedom, emphasizing her significant contribution to the global movement for gender equality. "Spinning around in my chair during the pre-show of A Doll's House and look who I spotted!" penned Chastain. "I was so excited to see Malala, a woman who has been on the forefront of fighting for female rights and freedom."
Chastain also highlighted the significance of A Doll's House being adapted by a woman, playwright Amy Herzog, for the first time on Broadway. The adaptation breathed new life into the classic play by Henrik Ibsen, bringing forth the importance of female perspectives and empowering narratives on stage. She penned, "Our version of A Doll’s House is the first to be adapted by a woman on Broadway and it is a true honour to play her Nora."
Chastain then went on to thank Malala for her support. "Thank you Malala and all of the amazing people who make up our audience," she wrote. "Sad to see this dream end on June 10. I hope you get a chance to see us before we close, and I hope it may awaken something inside you. It definitely did for me. Thank you for coming to our show, Malala."
