KARACHI:

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasised the importance of quality education, stating that teachers in the profession must prepare their students for the future of themselves and their country.

He made these remarks while speaking at the ceremony organised by Minister of Education Syed Sardar Shah, where offer letters were distributed to newly selected lecturers at the CM House.

Highlighting the responsibilities that come with being a teacher, Murad acknowledged the challenges of the teaching profession, comparing it to the noble profession of the prophets. He emphasised that teaching is a passion and a commitment to students, society, and the country.

Citing the quote, "Good teachers are costly, but bad teachers cost more," the CM highlighted the importance of investing in competent educators. He acknowledged that both types of teachers exist in the system and expressed the government's commitment to paying attention to this issue.

The chief minister mentioned that the selection process for 1,500 teaching positions was highly competitive, with over 100,000 candidates appearing for the examination conducted by the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC). The selected teachers are expected to commence their classes in August, following the summer vacation, and contribute to shaping the future of the country.

The CM also mentioned the completion of the recruitment process for 50,000 teachers through a third party, as per the directive of Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Additionally, he revealed plans to create over 1,600 teaching and non-teaching positions to meet the growing demand for educators.

Furthermore, the Minister for Education's recommendation to send 1,200 positions for M.Phil. and Ph.D teachers to the SPSC for selection was discussed.

The chief minister expressed his dedication to improving the education system by introducing modern teaching methods and recruiting qualified teachers. He emphasised that education is the key to global competitiveness and pledged to ensure the province's progress in this area.

Regarding digitisation, the CM revealed that student and teacher attendance in colleges has been digitised to promote professionalism and active engagement in the learning process.

He announced the digitisation of 28 libraries in colleges, with the goal of reaching a total of 58 digital libraries by the end of the current financial year. This initiative aims to provide students with online access to course materials, lectures, and books, facilitating learning and note-taking.

Furthermore, Murad mentioned the government's collaboration with Aga Khan and other leading educational institutions to introduce a teacher licensing process, aiming to enhance the quality of education.

On the occasion, Minister for Education Syed Sardar Shah, addressing the audience, commended the government's commitment to merit-based appointments of well-educated teachers.
