Attock hospital to have Thalassemia Centre

Official says facility will have 20 beds where about 10 doctors will be on duty

Attock Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza said that the Thalassemia Center would be functional after a month in Government Asfandyar Bukhari District Hospital, on Saturday.

"The hospital will provide medical facilities to the children affected by Thalassemia across the district," he said while addressing the event marking 'World Thalassemia Day'.

The event was organised by President League of Human Welfare Prof. Maqsood Elahi.

Major General (Retd) Dr Sohaib Ahmed, Medical Superintendent of Asfandyar Bukhari District Hospital Dr Jawad Elahi, MS of Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Colonel Dr Asad Nauman Kiyani, Regional Coordinator of Punjab Thalassemia Prevention Programme Rana Muhammad Saeed, Medical Director of Frontier Foundation of Peshawar Dr Fakhar Zaman, Medical Social Welfare Officer Muhammad Zubair, children affected by thalassemia and their parents were also present.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between the Government Asfandyar Bukhari District Hospital and the League of Human Welfare for the treatment of thalassemia-affected children.

The deputy commissioner said, "It will have about 20 beds and eight to 10 doctors will be on duty.

More than 250 children affected by thalassemia will be provided with medical facilities at this facility. "Taking care of children affected by thalassemia is our first duty."

Blood donation camp

A medical camp for Thalassemia patients was arranged at Watim Medical and Dental College in collaboration with Rawalpindi Medical University and Jamila Sultana Foundation. The camp aimed to raise awareness about blood donation and address the constant demand for blood in medical emergencies. Patron of PMA Islamabad Dr Abdul Rasheed Mian said blood is the key to saving the lives of critically ill patients.
