ISLAMABAD:

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) chairman has aired concerns over the lack of utilisation of Floating Storage and Re-gasificiation Unit (FSRU) for liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports, and stressed the need for increasing its use.

Out of 48 FSRUs working worldwide, two were in Pakistan but one of them was being utilised less than the desired levels and its use needed to be augmented, said Masroor Khan while speaking at a webinar.

It was the second knowledge-sharing webinar on LNG, which was arranged by Ogra and attended by representatives of Pakistan State Oil, Pakistan LNG Limited, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), CNG Association, LNG virtual pipeline licensees (including LNG Easy, LNG Flex and Gwadar Gasport) and Department of Explosives.

They gave presentation on global and domestic scenarios relating to the LNG supply chain.

Important topics covered in the presentations included present and future global LNG market trends, global imports, market and pricing mechanisms, trends in LNG contracts and challenges for Pakistan, current state of Pakistan’s gas market and its liberalisation, impact of natural gas market liberalisation on energy security, challenges of implementing market liberalisation, virtual pipeline infrastructure and its equipment and technology, regulatory safety, technical and logistical challenges of LNG virtual pipelines, and codes and standards adopted by the Department of Explosives for LNG-related infrastructure.

The webinar was attended by a large number of stakeholders including eminent professionals from the petroleum industry.
