Pakistan survived an Aiden Blizzard onslaught to register their tour-opening five-run Twenty20 win against the MCC XI at Lord’s yesterday.

Blizzard scored a 59-ball 73 laced with six fours and three sixes as the Pakistanis defended a formidable 165 after opting to bat first. However, he was dismissed in the final over bowled by Mohammad Aamer as MCC were restricted to 159 for five.

Shoaib Akhtar continued his good form as he took two for 19 off his quota.

Earlier, Umar Akmal scored a 30-ball 51 after an aggressive start by the openers to enable Pakistan to post 165. Shahzaib Hasan, who made his debut in England last year, thrashed the MCC bowlers, including Chaminda Vaas, for 34 runs off 19 deliveries as Pakistan start the tour with a win.
