KARACHI:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Karachi on Friday on a day-long visit. The premier will be attending the textile expo as a special guest, as well as lay the foundation stone of the K-IV project at the Chief Minister House.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah stated that the K-IV project will "help meet the water demands of the people and industries of Karachi, thus leading to the economic development of Pakistan".

“It is gratifying to see the federal and provincial governments give special importance to the timely completion of this project,” Shah added.

According to the minister, the project will provide 260 million gallons of water per day to Karachi in the first phase.

Shah highlighted that there is a daily demand of 1,200 million gallons of water in Karachi and about 600 million gallons of water are supplied to the Karachi Water Board from the Hub Dam and the Keenjhar Lake (Indus River) per day.

He continued that due to the rapidly increasing population of Karachi, the gap between the demand and supply of water will continue to increase. The minister added that meeting Karachi's water demand depended purely on the successful and timely completion of the K-IV project.

“K-IV will supply a total of 650 million gallons per day (MGD) of water to Karachi in three phases,” he said.

PM meets Sindh governor

PM Shehbaz met with Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori during his Karachi visit.

In the meeting, the governor thanked the prime minister for the federal government's special interest in the ongoing development projects of Sindh, especially Karachi.

Tessori gave a detailed briefing to PM Shehbaz about the current development projects in Sindh.

The ongoing political situation in the country was also discussed during the meeting.
