The Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) provincial leadership has expressed concerns over the central leadership’s unilateral decisions with regard to appointment of ministers to the federal cabinet. It has also called into question the performance of these ministers.
The party’s provincial leaders, divisional heads and central executive committee members held a consultative meeting on Monday.
Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, Azam Afridi, Senior Provincial Vice President Syed Ayub Shah, Nighat Orakzai and former MPAs participated in the meeting.
The leaders decided to mobilize the party at the grassroots level as it appointed Laiquat Shabab as the coordinator for the Peshawar Division.
The participants were told that the provincial leadership has informed PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto about the concerns of the party workers with regard to unilateral appointment of ministers to the federal cabinet.
It was decided to hold meetings of district and tehsil level office-bearers in Dir Upper, Hazara and Peshawar districts from June 4.
The participants agreed that the basic identity of the Pakistan Peoples Party is their devoted workers—Jialas—who are being ignored at every level. They said the party’s central leadership has been held hostage by a particular group, resulting in its downfall.
