District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Faisal Kamran said that various measures were being taken to minimise the number of dumper-related accidents in the city and its surrounding areas. Talking to the media on Sunday, he said that dumper accidents had been posing a serious threat to human lives and properties for a long time in the absence of proper procedures to avert such accidents.
He stated that he had paid special attention to the issue after taking charge as DPO and ordered stern action. DPO Kamran said that 121 people were crushed to death by dumpers, mostly altered and modified locally, in Sargodha division during 2022. However, the number of deaths in the ongoing year had fallen due to solid and practical steps taken by the administration.
The DPO said that eight deaths had been reported in five months, which showed that police were striving to resolve dumper-related issues and reduce the number of casualties across the division.
Traffic education in-charge Muhammad Sajed Mehmood told the media that a survey revealed that dumper-trucks were being altered, modified and in some cases even manufactured in the city and its suburban areas. Local mechanics are modifying the vehicles without adopting prescribed procedures.
