PESHAWAR:

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council has demanded that the government immediately withdraw arrest warrants for lawyers under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).

In a joint statement issued by Vice-Chairman Zarbadshah and Executive Chairman Advocate Syed Mubasher Shah on Monday, it has been said that the authorities should avoid arresting political workers who are peacefully protesting against the government.

All citizens have the right to protest under the Constitution of Pakistan, they noted. However, the government and law enforcement agencies should take strict action against the miscreants, they added.

The bar council expressed concern over the raids on the houses of peaceful citizens, political leaders and activists by the police and security agencies.
