New Town Police on Wednesday registered a case against a police officer following a complaint by the father of a Hindu youth, Kamal Kishan, who died during an alleged encounter near a private hospital on Stadium Road on May 1.

After the incident, the police claimed that the youths were street criminals. Later that day, the family members of the deceased youth gathered in front of the Newtown police station in large numbers and staged a strong protest. After the protest, the police officers met them and suspended the investigation officer Farman Shah, who was present at the place where the police encounter took place.

Babar Mirza Advocate, the legal counsel representing the complainant stated that the New Town Police have registered Case No. 165 of 2023 against Investigation Officer Farman Shah under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of Kishan, the father of the Hindu youth Kamal who was killed in the alleged encounter.

The complainant stated that he is a resident of Shanti Nagar Dalmia, and his son Kamal Kishan and his friend's son Anil had gone to Lyari to collect money received from Voluntary Committee (VC) for his daughter's marriage. While returning home on the night of May 1, they were intercepted by the police in front of a private hospital near Newtown police station.

During their search, the police recovered Rs80000 of the VC, a mobile phone, and other items from Kamal Kishan. At the same time, Anil was taken to a different place.

Farman fired a shot that killed Kamal. To hide their crime, a false case was registered against Anil in the New Town police station.Babar Mirza Advocate stated that facts will become clearer after the post-mortem report.
