KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has given the last deadline to the Sindh government to submit its response to the petitions of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQMP) and Jamaat-e-Islami regarding the implementation of the Supreme Court orders related to empowerment of the local bodies.

A two-member bench headed by Justice KK Agha heard the petitions of MQM-P and JI regarding the implementation of Supreme Court orders about transfer of power to the local government.

Sindh additional advocate general stated that the provincial government has set up a committee to amend local government laws.

The court remarked that despite repeated respites, the Sindh government has not submitted its response.

“It has been more than a year and the respondent has not submitted an answer,” Justice Agha observed.

MQM-P representative Tariq Mansoor Advocate stated that the government has already been given the last chance. The government is not interested in this matter.
