PM assures MQM-P of addressing census concerns

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday assured the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan of addressing its reservations regarding the latest digital census, thanking the party leaders for pointing out the errors and identifying the deficiencies in carrying out the exercise.

The MQM-P had for the last several months expressed its reservations over the headcount.

While reviewing the progress made so far on the reservations during a meeting with the MQM-P delegation at the Parliament House, Premier Shehbaz appreciated the party for uniformly correcting the errors and statistics of the census as well as identifying the deficiencies which helped in conducting an accurate census across the country.

The MQM-P delegation was headed by its Convener, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and included Senior Deputy Convener Syed Mustafa Kamal, Dr Farooq Sattar, Federal Minister Syed Aminul Haque and Javed Hanif, while Federal Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and the Pakistan Bureau of Statistcis chief were also present.

The delegation informed the prime minister about the discussions held in the meetings with various federal ministers and related institutions in the last few day, saying: “Our aim is not to give more or less to anyone. All citizens must be counted accurately in the census.”

The prime minister said that the MQM-P informed the relevant ministers and institutions about the errors in time, which made it possible to count every citizen correctly.

In the meeting, it was agreed to work together to solve the problems identified by the MQM-P in the census. The PM asked the relevant federal ministers and institutions to sit with the MQM-P and work together to solve these problems.
