KARACHI:

Five police officials of the North Nazimabad police station including the duty officer of the precinct were booked for keeping a pickup driver in illegal confinement and releasing him along with the contraband cargo of betel nuts against a bribe of Rs130,000.

According to police report, the personnel of North Nazimabad police station seized a pickup full of betel nuts near Five Star Intersection.

However, instead of booking the suspect and seizing the contraband betel nuts, the cops demanded a bribe of Rs150,000 to release the driver, the pickup and the cargo.

The SHO of the North Nazimabad police station and his four officials kept the driver in custody for several hours and released him after receiving Rs130,000.

Apparently, it was a bad day for the driver who was again caught by police of another police station. The Gabol Town police seized the pick up and threw him in the lock up. The poor man pleaded that he has already paid Rs130,00 to North Nazimabad SHO and how much more would the police fleece him.

Alerted by the claim of the driver the Gabol Town police officials informed the higher authorities. A case was registered against five cops of the North Nazimabad police station including the duty officer under other provisions including kidnapping for ransom and extortion.
